    Job purpose

    Searching for a Toolmaker Journeyman with a focus on Mold Repair to repair permanent and semi-permanent molds, dies and fixtures for an IATF certified automotive aluminum casting foundry. Ability to program CNC lathe and mill, while also using manual machining centers to create mold components to tight tolerance specifications based on supplied blueprints and CAD models. Support the production team on meeting customer requirements and quality requirements. Candidate needs to be a team player with a continuous improvement mindset that is willing to help and coach other members with less experience to help them grow in their supporting Tool Room roles.

    Duties and responsibilities

    • Repair and PM of aluminum casting molds, inserts, and related fixtures to ensure continuous production and a smooth operation, troubleshooting and identifying tooling issues.
    • Disassembling, cleaning, welding, dressing, and assembling molds for production to achieve 100%-part acceptance rate at start up.  
    • Setting up and operating tool room and production CNC equipment, including welder, lathe, mill, and surface grinder.    
    • Performing functional testing and inspections to predefined methods and sequences of operations within tolerance specifications       
    • Analysis of mold conditions / issues, planning of repairs, knowledgeable of general mold requirements, blue printing reading, CMM reports, and 3D scan reports  
    • Ability to understand and adhere to policies and procedures. For safety, environmental and quality.
    • Write and maintain CNC G/M-code programs using Fanuc/Haas/Window-based controls for Tool Room and support Production Machining using Mastercam software         

    Qualifications

    • Required – High school diploma or equivalent education
    • Toolmaker Journeyman certification or equivalent work experience
    • 10+ years – hands-on Mold and Die design and repair (aluminum Industry a plus)  
    • Proficiency in the set-up and operation of CNC tool room equipment, including precision measuring equipment
    • Needs to have own precision measuring tools that are required to work in a Tool Room environment  
    • Required - Must be committed to a high standard of safety and be willing and able to comply with all safety laws, polices, and rules. Must maintain regular and acceptable attendance as determined by company. 
    • Must be regularly available to work at least 10 hours per day, 40 hours per week. Must be available and willing to work such overtime as is necessary or desirable to meet business needs. 
    • Must be able to stand, bend and stoop. Regularly lift and/or move up to 35 pounds and frequently lift up to 15 pounds.
    • Trained in robot safety, hot works and lock out / tag out procedures.
    • Ability to read and decipher CMM and 3D Faro Arm reports a plus
    • Ability and desire to work in a team-oriented environment 
    • Fanuc or G-code programming certification are a plus
    • Certificate from a Technical/Trade School are a plus
    • Welding Certification a plus
    • CAD/CAM software experience and certification is a plus
