Junior Metallurgist

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Oversee and perform chemistry incoming inspection of aluminum ingot, sows and master alloys
    • Oversee chemistry analysis for in-process coupons, chemistry operation and mastering for daily inspection of metal from furnaces. Results are documented, communicated, and filed
    • Create the recipes for alloying additions to furnaces and oversees the data that is being input
    • Create & conduct training programs for lab techs for metallurgical analysis
    • Performs chemistry analysis of aluminum and in-process coupons. Performs spectrograph operation and mastering for daily inspection of metal from furnaces. Results are documented, communicated, and filed
    • Responsible for preparing metallography sample and conducting microstructure analysis for completion of heat treatment, identification of defects and solidification rate in aluminum castings
    • Hands on experience with tensile testing and hardness testing
    • Write and present technical reports of metallurgical failure analysis
    • Create & conduct training programs for lab techs for metallurgical analysis
    • Create work instructions and test procedures for metallurgical tests and heat treatment
    • Review T6 heat treatment of aluminum castings and disposition of suspect parts
    • Aware of consequences to the customer, environment, and the employee if procedures are not followed
    • Communicates all key events and information to assure continuity in safety, quality, and productivity
    • All other duties as deemed necessary by Engineering Manager and Corporate Metallurgist
