Position Details

Area Supervisor

  • Conneaut, Ohio
  • Job purpose

    Responsible for the overall coordination and direction of the foundry. Direct and supervise production employees to run equipment and perform duties consistent with established work instructions. Ascertains that product meets all customer requirements and that all key process controls are maintained within operating limits. Maintains employee discipline, good housekeeping and all safety, environmental and quality standards. Understands the environmental aspects, impacts, objectives and targets of General Aluminum and how these factors affect day-to-day operations. Ensures that employees understand their roles, responsibilities and accountabilities to the system. Ensures that appropriate personnel are trained.          

    Duties and responsibilities

    • Collaborates with safety officer to ensure regular departmental safety audits are performed and monthly safety meetings.

    • Coordinates day-to-day production schedule and provides direction to workers for completion of job assignment to assure timelines are attained.

    • Communicates and ensures that associates follow the plant rules, work instructions, safety rules, housekeeping standards, quality standards, environmental policies, production requirements and control plans.

    • Responsible for ensuring that associates have the right tool and/or gages to perform their job.

    • Supervises and communicates with employees regarding job performance/expectations, attendance, breaks, discipline addressing complaints and resolving problems.

    • Responsible for recording and evaluating OEE daily. Responsible for daily production reports, hot inspection audits and layered process audits.

    • Assures process consistency by utilizing work instructions, product control plans and operating procedures per ISO/TS 16949 quality and EMS requirements. Responsible for training new employees.

    • Administers the inspection of products to verify conformance to specifications and directs setup and adjustments of machines. Responsible for assuring that product meets customer quality and functional requirements.

    • Assures that all corrective actions are performed and documented. Implements and documents corrective actions to avoid recurrence, including disciplinary actions when applicable. Responsible for communication, awareness and implementation of quality alerts. Recommends measures to improve production methods, equipment performance and quality of product.

    • Approves and verifies accuracy of employee work hours and furnishes complete/correct production records.

    • Aware of consequences to the customer, environment and the employee if procedures are not followed.

    • Communicates all key events and information to Foundry Superintendent and/or Operations Manager to assure continuity in safety, quality and productivity.

    • All other duties as deemed necessary by the General Manager/ Operations Manager.



    • Required – 2 yr. college degree or university program certificate or 2-4 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

    • Required - Must be committed to a high standard of safety and be willing and able to comply with all safety laws, polices, and rules. Must maintain regular and acceptable attendance as determined by company. Must be regularly available to work at least 8 hours per day, 40 hours per week. Must be available and willing to work such overtime as is necessary or desirable to meet business needs. Must be able to stand, bend and stoop. Regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
