Position Details

Accounting/Payroll Specialist

  • Rootstown, Ohio
  • Job purpose

    The Accounting/Payroll Specialist is responsible for Payroll: including month end closing, scope invoices, issuing and processing time sheets, assist in reconciling payroll related accounts, and ensuring proper withholding and deductions.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                       

    Duties and responsibilities

    • Collect and enter hourly payroll data using ADP software.                                            

    • Calculate and post payroll deductions.                                                                                                                  

    • Process payroll by established deadlines.

    • Issue statements of earnings and deductions and reconcile employee deductions.

    • Investigate, report and correct payroll discrepancies and errors.

    • Update payroll records by recording changes including insurance coverage, loan payments, salary increases, etc.

    • Prepare and print payroll reports of earnings, hours worked, taxes, insurance and leave.

    • Audit paychecks and direct deposit vouchers                                      

    • Prepare weekly data reports from the payroll information                                                                            

    • Prepare journal entries for payroll activity                                                                                                            

    • Serve as back-up to reconciling all payroll accounts; including withholdings/deductions,                 

    • Assist in month end reporting process                                                                                                                   

    • Compile data for ASO reports                    

    • Assist in inventory

    • Other Duties as assigned by the Plant Controller



    • Associates degree in Accounting or Business field or equivalent work experience

    • Knowledge of wage and hour laws

    • Minimum 2-3 years of payroll experience for 150+ employees – ideally in a fast-paced environment

    • Results-oriented, accountable and highly organized

    • Professional appearance and demeanor

    • Exceptional time management skills

    • Solid analytical and problem solving skills.

    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with individuals at all levels of the organization

    • Expertise with computer systems and software, including MS office and internet-based applications.
