Position Details

Aluminum Casting Manufacturing Engineer

  • Conneaut, Ohio
  • Duties and responsibilities

    • Responsible for daily scrap analysis and working with Product Mgrs. on reduction efforts.

    • Creates and/or updates action improvement logs to reduce occurrence of customer returns and scrap rates. Aware of potential consequences to customers, environment and employees when non-compliant to procedures.

    • Participates in cell meetings and works with team to reduce scrap, improve efficiency and increase machine uptime.

    • Ensure safety audits are performed and participates in safety incident investigation and correction action implementation.

    • Assists Product Managers in APQP activities; including documentation, tool development, process development, measurement systems, and molding capability studies.

    • Evaluates manufacturing processes by designing and applying knowledge of product design, fabrication, assembly, tooling, and materials; conferring with equipment vendors; soliciting observations from operators.

    • Develops manufacturing processes by studying product requirements; researching, designing, modifying, and testing manufacturing methods and equipment; conferring with equipment vendors.

    • Improves manufacturing efficiency by analyzing and planning work flow, space requirements, and equipment layout.

    • Assures product and process quality by designing testing methods; testing finished- product and process capabilities; establishing standards; confirming manufacturing processes.

    • Provides manufacturing decision-making information by calculating production, labor, and material costs; reviewing production schedules; estimating future requirements.

    • Keeps equipment operational by coordinating maintenance and repair services; following manufacturer's instructions and established procedures; requesting special service.

    • Maintains product and process data base by writing computer programs; entering data.


    • Four year technical degree strongly preferred in Engineering or related area.

    • Engineering background – at least 5 years’ experience.

    • Knowledge of 5S practices and works to ensure employees understanding of 5S implementation.

    • Knowledgeable of Quality Systems (Customer returns, Corrective/Preventive Action, MRB, tagging, traceability, control plan inspections, response forms, etc.)

    • Knowledgeable of root cause analysis tools and techniques.  Leads and/or participates with problem solving teams to identify root cause and determine corrective action to prevent reoccurrence.  Documents the root cause analysis and corrective action.

    • Understands and participates with layered process audit and hot inspections.

    • Experience in Product Development, Manufacturing Quality, and Presenting Technical Information.


    Working conditions and environment

    General Office as well as foundry/manufacturing environment with exposure to high noise, heat, moving equipment, and molten metal.  Use of protective equipment necessary.  Some potential exposure to factory environments at our facilities.
